The 80/20 Rule:

(this one’s for the, guys like me, the marketing geniuses)…
I asked google, “in marketing what percentage should be selling from your social media feed and what percentage should be content posts.” -sometimes it is good to brush up on this stuff, can’t always be self-promoting on our platforms, however here’s a tip: the non-self promo posts are actually self-promo posts too. duhh. if ur good at it.
========================================
A standard rule in social media marketing is that 20% to 30% of your content should be direct selling or promotional, while 70% to 80% should be value-driven content like education, entertainment, or community building.
Common Content Ratios
The 80/20 Rule: 80% value-driven content (informative, engaging, or entertaining posts) and 20% direct sales or product pitches. This prevents audience fatigue.
The 70/20/10 Rule: 70% original value and brand-building content, 20% curated content from external industry sources, and 10% promotional/sales offers.
The 5:3:2 Rule: Out of every 10 posts, 5 are valuable content from others (curated), 3 are original educational or brand content, and 2 are fun/personal posts.
Key Principles
Give before you ask: Build trust and authority before pushing an offer.
No rigid limits: Adjust your mix based on your specific business type, sales cycle, and audience. Restaurants or flash-sale brands may post more promotional content than long-term B2B consultants.
Focus on value: If every post feels like a sales pitch, followers will disengage. Ensure your non-sales content solves problems or entertains.

In short, put a lot of fluff in there as well as your regular stuff the audience is into, expects, plus flash bang surprises and breakings of the internet. Scandal, trends, current events, and the viral most talked about thing of the minute. Think, what would have u reading it? A bit of TMZ and a bit of generation X style malaise, also, humour. be funny. smarter. wiser. be brilliant if u can.
