i did weird shit like that as a kid all the time but never considered them compulsions, like how i used to only eat my smarties/skittles after organizing them into their own separate colour piles and then eating my least favourite colour down first down to my favourite, one at a time.

i would look through the windshield at whatever shadows were on the car. i would have to “jump” (basically just in my mind, but probably moved my feet a little) and only “touch” the road where there were shadows across it. so if there were trees, telephone poles, etc. i’d imagine myself touching down on the road at that exact spot.

it got hard when there were a bunch in a row or when we were on a highway because sometimes i’d have to do it really fast and would miss a shadow. it was also hard when a shadow only covered half the road because then i’d only be touching down on that side.

sometimes i did it with construction where there were tar lines across the road too. this was more on highways where there were no shadows and a bunch of construction instead. this was harder.
